SB721 Deck, Balcony, Walkway and Stair Inspections

In 2019, Governor Brown signed SB721, which mandates periodic, destructive testing of all decks and balconies on multifamily buildings by a qualified person, which includes a company with a California construction license. These inspections MUST be done by January 1st, 2025, and must be repeated every 6 years. This was inspired by a horrific balcony collapse in 2015 that killed 6 and injured 7 Berkeley balcony collapse kills 6 | CNN.
